Blonde is a hair color that is not seen on most people. Blonde hair is also known as fair-hair due to the lack of eumelanin which is what gives hair its pigment. More eumelanin means darker hair. There are many factors that gives blonde hair quite a range but there is always some kind of yellow-ish tone to blonde hair.

Blonde hair ranges from levels 7 (dark blonde) to level 10 (very light or platinum blonde). Like other hair colors both natural and artificial, blonde hair can come with undertones such as red, blue, ash, or golden. Some examples are strawberry blonde (blond with reddish tones) and golden blonde also known as "sandy" blonde. Blonde hair is usually more common in Europe or America. People with natural fair skin are usually accompanied with blonde hair and blue eyes. However, there are always exceptions.

When going artificially blonde this shade may require bleaching and possibly an anti-brass toner like a purple or blue shampoo or even an additional hair colouring step to add the desired effect. If the description mentions lightening or lifting it is a type of pigment removal—if it says only coverage or colour it is colour deposit.

Types[]

Platinum Blonde and Silver Grey Hair[]

The lightest hair colour for the most lack of pigment with a blue or purple wash or toner. High up keep if not naturally blonde and usually need to be done by professionals. Grey is added after as a colouring or shampoo.

Iridescent, Pearl, Ice and Crystal Blondes[]

This can very from light to platinum blonde with iridecent (purple) tones and/or blue tones. For example:

  • Iridescent (purple (violet) tones)
  • Pearl (iridescent + blue tones)
  • Ice or Crystal (blue tones)

Light Blondes[]

The lightest blondes before going platinum, grey or platinum with a blue or purple wash or toner. They tend to be ash, beige, golden or neutral tones.

Strawberry Blondes[]

The lightest of reds into blonde; copper, copper-golden or golden-copper tones.

Medium Blonds[]

A midrange shade in ash, beige, neutral, golden or copper tones.

Medium, Dark and Strawberry Blondes[]

Similar to light browns and strawberry blondes but just before or on the border the brunette or redhead hair spectrum. Often red blondes are considered both blonde and red, so it will most likely flatter those naturally blonde or naturally red.
